Last year, around this time in October, we took a trip with family and friends to Ellijay, Georgia. We rented a cabin, drove down windy roads, hiked the southern end of the Appalachian Trail and went apple picking at Mercier Orchards. We wanted to get out of our everyday and see the leaves change colors, see mountain views and get into cooler weather. Ellijay is the apple capital of Georgia and is home to the Georgia Apple Festival and various orchards that allow you to pick your own apples. We didn't plan on hiking up 8.5 miles to see the 729 feet Amicalola Falls, but we did. For a group of Floridians that are used to flat land, I think we underestimated what we were getting ourselves into. But, the views of the North Georgia Mountains were so worth it.
